Remote access without open ports

How do I connect my IP cameras to the cloud without port forwarding?

Put a Silarius Gateway on the same network as your cameras: it connects out to Silarius Cloud over an encrypted tunnel, so there is no port forwarding, no VPN and no inbound firewall rule. New Silarius X cameras connect out on their own, with no Gateway at all.

The short answer

  • Outbound connection only: nothing on your network is opened to the internet.
  • One Gateway connects up to 50 ONVIF or RTSP IP cameras of almost any brand.
  • Silarius X cameras need no Gateway, no NVR and no port forwarding.
  • Watch live and recorded video in a browser or the iOS and Android apps.
  • Video is stored off site in Silarius Cloud, from $6.99 per camera per month.

Why skip port forwarding

Port forwarding opens a path from the internet straight to a camera or recorder. Devices exposed this way are a common target, especially when their firmware is out of date or they still use a default password.

With an outbound connection, the camera or Gateway calls out to the cloud and nothing on your router is opened, so there is no public address on the internet to scan.

Set it up

  1. Check your camera models in the free compatibility checker.
  2. Plug the Silarius Gateway into your network; it finds the cameras.
  3. Pick a cloud plan for each camera and watch from anywhere.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a static IP address or a VPN?

No. The Silarius Gateway and Silarius X cameras connect out to the cloud, so a normal business or home internet connection works, with no static IP, VPN or port forwarding.

Does it work with my NVR?

Silarius Cloud connects IP cameras, not recorders. NVRs and DVRs cannot be added to the cloud. Cameras that plug into the PoE ports on the back of an NVR may sit on a private network; our team checks your setup for free.

How much upload speed do I need?

About 400 kbit/s per camera at 720p, 750 kbit/s at 1080p and 1,600 kbit/s at 4K, plus some headroom.
