The open cloud alternative to Verkada
Locked into proprietary cameras and per-device licenses? Silarius Cloud works with the cameras you already own, keeps your video in the cloud and publishes every price.
Silarius Cloud vs Verkada
| Feature | Verkada | |
|---|---|---|
| Works with the cameras you already own | Yes. Any ONVIF IP camera, any brand, through the Silarius Gateway | Built for Verkada cameras. Other cameras need a Command Connector appliance plus a camera license each[3] |
| Where your video is kept | In Silarius Cloud, for the retention you choose | On the camera. Video is not stored in the cloud by default[1] |
| Camera stolen or destroyed | Video is already safe in the cloud | Video on the camera goes with it, unless cloud backup covered it[1] |
| How long video is kept | You choose per camera: 1 hour (live view) to 1 year online, custom up to 3 years | 30 days standard; 60, 90, 120 or 365 days means buying a different camera model. Longer cloud backup is an extra license[1] |
| Recording quality | Published per plan: up to 500, 1,000, 1,600 or 2,000 kbit/s | Set by the camera model |
| Prices | Every plan, AI add-on and Gateway price is published. Build your price and buy online | Through Verkada sales or a reseller |
| Billing | Monthly per camera, or yearly with 10% off | Per-device licenses[2] |
| If you stop paying | Cameras connected through the Gateway are standard ONVIF cameras that work with any NVR or video software | 30 days after a license expires: no access to your devices or settings, and alarms and notifications are disabled[2] |
| AI analytics | Cloud AI on any connected camera, priced per camera: Advanced AI from $16, PPE and gun detection from $8, plates $48, faces $60 | Built into Verkada cameras |
| Security design | End-to-end encryption, one outbound connection on port 443, no open ports or port forwarding | FTC action in 2024 after a 2021 breach that exposed more than 150,000 live customer cameras[4] |
| Large or remote sites | Gateway V2: up to 200 cameras, 4G LTE with GPS, dual Gigabit failover, SSD buffer, up to 80% less bandwidth | Cameras connect directly to Verkada Command |

20 cameras you already own, in the cloud
Silarius Cloud Pro: 1080p, up to 1,000 kbit/s, 30 days of video, plus one Silarius Gateway. No new cameras.
Six reasons sites choose Silarius Cloud
Keep the cameras you own
Replacing working cameras is the most expensive way to get to the cloud. Silarius Cloud connects any ONVIF IP camera through a Gateway, and you add Silarius X cameras only where you need new coverage.
Video that is actually in the cloud
When video lives on the camera, a stolen, smashed or failed camera takes the evidence with it. Silarius Cloud records to the cloud, so the video is safe the moment it is recorded.
Retention you can change
Retention is a plan setting, not a camera model. Keep a lobby camera for 30 days and the loading dock for 6 months, and change it when your needs change.
Prices in the open
Every Silarius Cloud plan, kbit/s rate, AI add-on and Gateway price is on our website. Build your exact monthly price in seconds, no sales call needed.
No hardware hostage
Stop paying for a closed system and the cameras can stop being useful. ONVIF cameras on Silarius Cloud stay standard cameras that work with other recorders and software.
Secure by design
Encrypted end to end, with one outbound connection and no open ports, port forwarding or public IP addresses at your sites.
Frequently asked questions
Can I switch from Verkada to Silarius Cloud?
Yes. Silarius Cloud connects ONVIF IP cameras. Verkada cameras are designed to run on Verkada Command, so most switching sites move those positions to Silarius X cameras, which connect straight to Silarius Cloud with no gateway, and connect any other ONVIF cameras they own through the Silarius Gateway. Check your models with the compatibility checker.
Can I run Silarius Cloud next to my Verkada system while I switch?
Yes. Silarius Cloud does not touch your Verkada system, so you can move site by site and camera by camera.
What does Silarius Cloud cost?
From $6.99 per camera per month (Mobile, 720p up to 500 kbit/s). Every plan and add-on is on the pricing page, where you can build your exact price and check out.
Where does this comparison come from?
From Verkada's own help center and a U.S. Federal Trade Commission press release, as of October 2026. Sources are listed at the bottom of the page. Features and policies can change, so check them with each vendor.
