No NVR, no gateway, no port forwarding

Do I need an NVR to record security cameras to the cloud?

No. Silarius X Cloud Ready cameras record straight to Silarius Cloud with no NVR, no Gateway and no port forwarding: each camera connects out to the cloud on its own over an encrypted tunnel. Cameras you already own can record to the cloud too, through one Silarius Gateway for up to 50 cameras, and plans start at $6.99 per camera per month.

The short answer

  • Silarius X cameras have the Silarius Cloud connection built in: plug in, power up, and watch.
  • No NVR, no Gateway, no server closet and no open ports on your router.
  • Dome, turret, bullet, panoramic, PTZ, multisensor and plate-reading models.
  • They also support ONVIF Profile S, T, G and M, so they can record to a Silarius NVR if you want a local copy.
  • Existing cameras, NVRs and DVRs join the same account through a Silarius Gateway.
  • Silarius hardware carries a 3-year full warranty and ships free in the US.

How a camera records to the cloud without an NVR

A normal IP camera sends video to a recorder (an NVR) in a closet, and you reach that recorder over the internet. A Silarius X camera skips the recorder: it opens its own encrypted connection out to Silarius Cloud, where the video is stored and watched in a web browser or the mobile app.

Because the camera connects out, there is nothing to open on your router and no VPN to set up.

What you need on site

  1. The cameras, powered by PoE (a PoE switch or injector) or their own power supply.
  2. An internet connection with enough upload speed: plan about 400 kbit/s per camera at 720p, 750 kbit/s at 1080p and 1,600 kbit/s at 4K, plus headroom.
  3. Nothing else: no NVR, no hard drives, no Gateway.

Already have cameras or a recorder?

Keep them. The Silarius Gateway connects existing ONVIF or RTSP IP cameras, NVRs and DVRs to the same Silarius Cloud account, up to 50 cameras per Gateway. Each camera on a recorder is added on its own. New Silarius X cameras can sit next to them in the same view.
