Line crossing or intrusion not working

Fix line crossing and intrusion rules that don't send events, and draw zones the AI can use.

5 min Intermediate

By the end you will know the usual reasons line crossing and intrusion stay quiet, and how to draw detection areas that catch the right things.

What you need

  • Access to Silarius Cloud Admin
  • Access to your camera's own web page

Step by step

  1. Open the camera's web page

For Silarius X cameras (plug and play), open the Troubleshooting tab and click Generate Link. For ONVIF cameras, copy the camera's web address and open it in a modern web browser.

  2. Find line crossing or intrusion

In the camera's web page, find the smart or intelligent settings. Open line crossing (or intrusion).

  3. Tick both boxes

Make sure the feature itself is turned on. Also make sure its schedule is turned on (it may say Enable Plan).

  4. Check the direction

Make sure the line counts the direction you care about, like coming in, not going out.

  5. Test it

Walk across the line or into the area. Check that an event shows up in the web app.

What are line crossing and intrusion?

Line crossing sends an event when something crosses a line you draw. Intrusion sends an event when something enters an area you draw. Both are made by the camera. Silarius Cloud can use them to start an AI check.

The feature is on but nothing happens

Sometimes you set line crossing or intrusion in Silarius Cloud Admin, and the setting reaches the camera. But the camera still sends nothing.

On some cameras, turning on the feature isn't enough. Its schedule must be on too. On some cameras the schedule switch is called Enable Plan. It does not always turn on by itself. If either box is off, the feature won't work.

How much of the object must be in the area

Some cameras let Silarius Cloud read their motion area over ONVIF. For these, at least a quarter (25%) of the object must be inside the motion area. Objects outside it are ignored, and no alert is sent.

Drawing mistakes to avoid

  • Small, scattered areas. It's hard for an object to land 25% inside lots of tiny spots. Big objects get missed the most. This cuts false events but makes you miss real ones.
  • The whole picture. You'll catch everything, but you'll also get alerts for every person and car passing by. If you want to know about people at your front door, cover only the steps and porch.
