Silarius X cameras vs the Silarius Gateway: how each connects

Silarius X cameras (plug and play)

Silarius X cameras connect straight to the cloud. No recorder and no gateway. Plug the camera into your router and it connects.

Here is how it works:

• When it starts, the camera reaches out to the cloud on port 443 (TCP). Most firewalls already allow this.
• It makes a secure tunnel to the cloud, locked with TLS and AES-256 encryption.
• Video and its details are protected from the camera all the way to your screen.
• No public IP address and no open ports are needed.
• Whenever the internet is available, the camera connects by itself.

Getting to the camera's own page

Sometimes a tech needs the camera's own web page. Silarius Cloud can make a short-lived link to it through the cloud. Use Generate URL on the camera's Troubleshooting tab in Silarius Cloud Admin.

Your own existing cameras

You can use your own existing cameras, any model. Connect them one of two ways:

• Silarius Gateway: a small box on your network that finds your cameras and sends their video through a secure tunnel. No port forwarding.
• ONVIF: connect the camera directly. This usually needs port forwarding.

Which should I pick?

• New system: Silarius X cameras are the simplest. See our cameras.
• Cameras already installed: use the Silarius Gateway.
• One far-off camera with an open port: ONVIF can work.
